South Dakota fires first shot in Roe vs Wade 2, as protected by Goodwin's law

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota moved closer to imposing some of the strictest limits on abortion in the nation, as the state Senate approved legislation that would ban it except when a woman's life is in danger. The bill, designed to wage a national legal fight about the legality of abortion, passed 23-12 Wednesday. It next returns to the state House, which has passed a different version.

The measure would make South Dakota the first state to ban abortion in nearly all circumstances. Doctors would face up to five years in prison for performing abortions unless a woman needed one to save her life.  Actually, I've been expecting the hypocritical death penalty crazy Texans to fire this first shot, but SD would have been my next guess.  When I think about all the personal liberties that we've had stolen from us over the past 5 years, it's enough to make Charles Bronson cry like a baby.  Let's see... You can no longer wear a T shirt with a derogatory political message against the Chimp within 2 blocks of where his motorcade will be traveling;  Our President/Emperor has declared that he can and will listen in on our private phone calls and emails at his discretion, and contrary to most legal scholars, has also declared it constitutional.  Now, soon a woman's right to choose what she does with her own body will be toast also.

The Republicans get irate whenever someone compares the Bush Administration to the Adolph Hitler regime.  There's even  "Goodwin's Law" which states that the first person in a political discussion to make a Nazi analogy automatically loses his argument and the discussion ceases.  In normal circumstances I would agree that as soon as a participant in an argument starts stooping to extremes like throwing around the H word, it's evident that he's on the ropes.  But can't this sometimes be a little like when the paranoid found out there really was someone following him?  I'm not suggesting that Bush would stoop to doing things like gassing ethnic minorities, or....[after thinking for 10 minutes]... I'm sure I could think of something else he wouldn't stoop to doing if I had more time..... but Goddamit the one striking similiarity that scares me most about this administration is that they are masters of propaganda, and the general public buys it and lets them get away with their shit.  And just like 1930's Germany, little by little our freedom is being chipped away.  One day in the near future the American people are going to finally wake and realize all that they've lost, one chip at a time. Hopefully unlike Nazi Germany, it won't be too late.  I hope that anyone who wishes to argue this with me realizes that it's a moot point as I have already lost the argument via the law of Goodwin.

In Cheney's defense

In Cheney's defense, I've heard that Harry Whittington does look a lot like a quail.

Back by popular demand

And now ladies and genglemen, back by popular demand, the one and only, the most incompetent, the biggest liar, the most naievly corrupt via stupidity, the bumbling, the stammering, the inept, the number one worst president in the history of the United States of America, I give you The Shrub, The Chimp, the Little Monkey Buffoon, GEEEEEOOOOOOOORRRRRRRGE DOOOOOOOOOOBLLLLEUUUUUUUUUW BUUUUUUUUUUUUSH!!!!!!!!!!

Judge shoots down "Intelligent Design" Curriculum in PA

Well the Creationists are at it again, this time disguised as "Intelligent Designers".  Federal Judge  John E. Jones III ruled that Dover Area School Board members violated the Constitution when they ordered that its biology curriculum must include the notion that life on Earth was produced by an unidentified intelligent cause.  Congradulations to Judge Jones for upholding the constitution.  My biggest worry with Alito is that once confirmed, the Bible belters will tie up the Supreme Court with this crap  again.  And with Alito there to swing the vote,  Creationism nonsense will be taught side by side with Evolution.  Pat Robertson will be giggling like a little school girl.

Fitz has finally got Rove by the short hairs

After the Libby indictment, it seemed as though Rove might slide through this thing in a cloud of obscurity. According to this article, Rove's lies have finally come back to bite him in the ass. Sure would be nice if he and Libby ended up playing tennis together at Club Fed. Wishful thinking aside, what are the odds that the chimp wouldn't immediately drop a full pardon on "his brain" once he were convicted?

Bottom line on the vote count

The bottom line on the vote count as far as I'm concerned is the nature of our President himself.  Let's face it... George W. Bush is not the person of high ideals that he tries so poorly to portray.  Look at his life leading up to his presidency:  His cocaine and alcohol addictions; The way he skipped out on his National Guard duties; The way he so skillfully managed to purge his records to cover up and then lie about his past, including his arrests for drunk driving and cocaine possession;  The fact that he would even have a character as corrupt as Karl Rove on his staff, let alone running his campaign.  This is a man who failed at every endeavor prior to becoming Governor of Texas.  He has NEVER accomplished anything on his own merit, but has rather ridden on the coat tails of a very powerful father.  Combined, all this adds up to a President of very foul character... one who makes Richard M. Nixon look like Mother Teresa.
I have to ask one question... Deep down, did any of you REALLY think that Kerry could win?  For the past year, I basically occupied my mind with optimism and false hope.  But like  many of you, there were times that I laid in bed late at night and thought about Bush and his obsessive drive for re-election; about Karl Rove; about Diebold and his Ohio promise; about the nature of electronic voting in general; and underneath all of my optimism and false hope, I knew that Kerry could not win this election.

1357 and Counting

               1357 and Counting

I don't know why you did what you did,

I just wonder how you ever sleep at night.

For when it was your own ass hanging on the line,

You never seemed to be too keen to fight.

The dead are those who never chose to hide,

The less fortunate who never had the clout,

To disappear while brave men fought and died,

And showed the courage you know nothing about.

I know why you said you did what you did,

It turned out to be just a pack of lies,

Did you ever think about the hundred broken hearts,

Left in the void of every soldier when he dies?

Oh you act like you care, you act like you feel,

You act like this is for the better end,

But way deep down you know the truth that's real,

And the truth is brave hearts fallen never mend.

I can wonder why you did what you did,

I can listen to the tall tales that you tell,

As I ponder meaning in your hollow stare,

While your foes await you patiently in hell.

Was it just for sport?  Was it just a game?

Was it something like the tail whose dog it wags?

In the end it's only you who knows the truth,

God knows why you never count the body bags.
